Are you looking for that edge you know you have, that you know that you can reach!? Well, here it is…Athlete’s Edge! Taking your mental focus, and your physical abilities to the Next Level!
Back in 2016, Jeremy encouraged and convinced me to run a triathlon sprint. I was going thru an emotional time, as my oldest son was leaving for service. Jeremy was convinced this would be a great way to get me thru my summer. At the time, he didn’t know what he was asking of me. He didn’t know that I was a smoker and that it was something I tried to hide at all cost. I knew if I committed to this journey, I would also have to make a solid commitment to quit smoking. I don’t know what gave me more anxiety, the thought of quitting, or the thought of racing in a triathlon! My husband encouraged me to tell Jeremy, saying if you’re going to do this, he needs to know your struggle! It was one of the most difficult things I ever had to tell someone. Jeremy’s encouragement and non-judgmental attitude was such a relief. Jeremy constantly checked in with me that summer, making sure I felt good, and would constantly cheer me on every week that passed that I didn’t pick up a cigarette. Over the past three years, he has continued to be a constant support in my life, not only as a coach but as a friend. Today, June 1, marks my 3-year anniversary nicotine free. Since making that commitment 3 years ago after a 25-year struggle, I have trained and raced in several triathlon sprints, an Olympic distance tri, a Half Ironman, many 5k's, 10k’s, 3 half marathons, and a full marathon. All of these races were with Jeremy as my coach. I came with no athletic background, in my 40’s, and yet somehow along the way he has convinced me that things that seem impossible are possible. As a wife, mom of four (who homeschools), works part-time out of the home and helps her husband run a full-time business, life can sometimes seem out of control, yet Jeremy balances my training into my life. He reminds me to always have fun! I believe life is made up of choices, and choosing to hire Jeremy as my coach three years ago was one of the best decisions I ever made. He knows when to push me out of my comfort zone, but also when to hold me back when he sees I’m not ready. That for me is such a huge quality in a coach. He continues to coach me in a way that allows me to be me, and yet always crossing the finish line. I don’t do these races to prove anything to anyone, and although I do not have the same struggles I did 3 years ago, I continue to train and race, because it is a constant reminder that I am stronger than any struggle, and I am physically and mentally stronger than the old me.
